You know, one of these things:
I don’t just want to order one on Amazon, Gearbest, DealExtreme or wherever
and hope that it is OK, it would be nice knowing the one I am ordering has been approved by people I trust to make such decisions, like you folks...
A few caveats though...I have an ancient Samsung Galaxy Core LTE with a silicon case. I don’t want a mount that is magnetic as I don’t want to stick anything to my phone or case...the spring-loaded quick release kind is my preference. I also don’t want the
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
as experience with other non-phone-mount flexy bendy neck things tells me they suck and rarely stay in place.
Anybody have one they bought somewhere online that has treated them well? :)
Cheers!

nope, they all suck. Well the suction cup things does, but it usually works fine. It’s the damn spring loaded side arms that always break the tiny plastic gears and one arm stops retracting or springing. I’ve tried a bunch and never found a good one. I gave up and switched to the vent-mount from Bestrix (via Amazon). It’s a pain that it blocks the vent and sometimes the radio controls, but at least it survives more than a couple of weeks

I second this. Get Iottie's most recent suction cup mount.

I’ve been reasonably happy with my ram mounts x-grip , but I haven’t used it a lot. The main problem I’ve had is the sizing because they’re generic, so my old phone that was listed as fitting the holder I bought wa s a tight squeeze with the case on.

Very adjustable. This model doesn’t shake around too much (I had the previous model and it was unusably bouncy). The grab/release mechanism works well and feels very secure, though it’s a bit ugly (unavoidable since no one makes phone specific mounts these days). Wireless charging is nice, but being in the sun on the windshield often makes the phone hot enough that it refuses to charge wirelessly (may be a little less of a problem in your cooler climate). The suction cup sticks well to the windshield , aided by some sort of multiple use adhesive film (I’ve had it fall off once across several years of use).
There’s a cheaper non-wireless charging version, but given that navigation tends to be battery intensive, it’s nicer to have the charging.

OK, two other people suggested this same mount as well, so I’ll definitely look into it!

I liked the flexy long neck as it holds the phone relatively close to you, but they in no way held up to bumpy Welsh roads.

My first choice is anything but iO ttie. But I picked up a Scosche (sp?) sticky back thing over at Target on clearance and it actually worked surprisingly well with my relatively large and/or heavy devices (iPhone 6S Plus in a Mophie battery case and an iPad mini 2).

I have a Scosche FM Transmitter that I use in my car sometimes and that works fine...I’ll look into their phone mounts, thanks!

I just looked at my original post and saw that autocorrect has once again fuct up and reversed what I meant to say by screwing up a single word . It should read anything BY iOttie. I really like their stuff, and have multiple units to prove it...

iOttie. Their suction pad is very good on either the windshield or dash. Hit a hell of a bump in the sand dunes and my rear view mirror fell off, phone and mounth didn’t budge.
